galaxy girl

feeling the earth carrying your weight

deep beneath

the bed

the floor

the house

trusting the earth with yourself

getting a little bit lighter while

breathing light

floating on a stream of consciousness

close to the coast of sleep

gone for a moment

then

imagining

your mystical twin

a galaxy girl you’re told

dressed in the deep hue called midnight

not black not blue

the universe is her maxi coat

her turned up collar star-struck

her shoulders and sleeves criss-crossed

by trailing comets

the highways of heaven running

down her universal coat

she says the stars are the answer

I’m running a star train bringing

the lights of night

to earth as ideas

for solutions

you can read them by numbers she says

in the great constellations

her colour is your long-lost

colour of inspiration

midnight

to wear it you must be rooted

in the universe not in earth

so mostly you gave up and chose

navy or black

you’re sensing she’s genuine

a real starlink

smiling at you with bristling hair

scrunched up on top of her head

with an asteroid belt

but her soft teenage features

defenceless her rosy-cheeked bloom

paling in earth’s early morning

afraid she’ll fade

you’re getting the message

she needs the company

of teens like herself

earth children boisterous

benign but without

her delicacy

you say come with me

I’ll facilitate

come and meet the earth kids that care

then you fall asleep

in the morning you decide

to go back to teaching
